Cavnue Awarded Contract to Deliver Next Generation Traffic Operations Data Service on I-95, Advancing Real-Time Lane-Level Visibility

Richmond, VA – Cavnue, a wholly owned subsidiary of Consor Engineers, has been selected to deliver the Next Generation Traffic Operations Data Service on Interstate 95 in the Richmond region, under a contract awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The project will deploy Cavnue’s advanced Smart Road Platform, as a managed service, and establish a new model for optimizing roadway operations, enabling continuous, lane-level visibility across the full north-south corridor. This approach supports incident detection, traffic operations, and corridor management, benefiting road users across both connected and non-connected vehicles on one of the Commonwealth’s most heavily trafficked corridors.

“Cavnue was founded in Virginia with the goal of partnering with public agencies to build the smartest and most capable roadways in the country,” said Tyler Duvall, President of Cavnue. “Being awarded this project on I-95 is a significant milestone and reflects our commitment to work alongside VDOT to modernize critical corridors and bring next-generation roadway technology to the Commonwealth. This project represents a meaningful step forward in how major corridors in Virginia are operated and managed.”

Accelerated incident detection will enable VDOT to dispatch emergency teams more quickly and expedite roadway clearance, reducing the risk of secondary crashes and supporting more consistent travel conditions for the thousands of drivers and freight operators who rely on I-95 each day. This real-time visibility will also allow for improved management of work zones, providing drivers with clearer guidance and enhancing safety for roadway workers.

Cavnue’s Smart Road Platform integrates roadside infrastructure into a unified system that provides continuous, lane-level awareness of roadway conditions, enabling Traffic Operations Centers to detect hazards earlier and respond more quickly. This real-time visibility supports more proactive, coordinated corridor operations, rather than reacting to incidents after they occur.

Cavnue prioritizes the security and privacy of the traveling public. The platform is designed to enhance safety without collecting personally identifiable information (PII), and all data is used solely to support roadway safety and operational efficiency.

The Virginia deployment builds on Cavnue’s active delivery of intelligent infrastructure on high-speed, high-volume corridors across the country. For the I-95 project, Cavnue will oversee the deployment, operations, and maintenance of all technology capabilities.
