Smart Infrastructure for One of America’s Busiest Freight Corridors in Georgia
Smart Infrastructure at the Port of Savannah
The State Route 307 (SR 307) Smart Freight Corridor is designed to enhance safety and efficiency along one of Georgia’s most vital freight routes, connecting the Port of Savannah’s Garden City Terminal to Interstate 16 (I-16). In May 2025, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) selected Cavnue to deploy its advanced smart road technology, marking a major step in modernizing freight infrastructure near the nation’s fourth-largest seaport.
The project begins with a six-mile initial deployment of Cavnue’s Integrated Platform, to test and demonstrate the technology’s effectiveness in a high-volume trucking environment. Spanning SR 307 from I-16 to State Rout 25/Coastal Highway, this initiative will provide real-time visibility into traffic operations and hazards, laying the groundwork for potential expansion across Georgia’s freight corridors.

Technology
The SR 307 Smart Freight Corridor will be outfitted with sensors, cameras, and digital infrastructure that deliver comprehensive, lane-level insights into traffic conditions, incidents, and road hazards. These insights will be shared with GDOT and connected vehicles to enable faster response times and improved roadway awareness. The platform is specifically optimized for the high-density commercial traffic traveling to and from the Port of Savannah.
Benefits
Through this pilot, GDOT and Cavnue are enabling safer, smarter freight movement in one of the busiest truck corridors in the state. The technology will improve incident detection, reduce congestion, and provide GDOT with a real-time, predictive view of conditions on SR 307. As freight volume continues to grow with the Port’s expansion, this project helps position Georgia’s infrastructure to keep pace with increasing demand and global trade flows.
